Better Business Consultants Gives To UMDF For Third Consecutive Year

For the third year in a row Better Business Consultants has made a donation to the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation.

February 2, 2010 -- A donation has been made from Better Business Consultants, Inc. for the third straight year to the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation (UMDF). The mission of the UMDF "to promote research and education for the diagnosis, treatment and cure of mitochondrial disorders and to provide support to affected individuals and families."

According to UMDF's website mitochondrial diseases result from failures of the mitochondria, specialized compartments present in every cell of the body except red blood cells. Mitochondria are responsible for creating more than 90% of the energy needed by the body to sustain life and support growth. When they fail, less and less energy is generated within the cell. Cell injury and even cell death follow. If this process is repeated throughout the body, whole systems begin to fail, and the life of the person in whom this is happening is severely compromised. The disease primarily affects children, but adult onset is becoming more and more common.

"We first donated to the UMDF because my accountant had an infant nephew diagnosed with a mitochondrial disease. She wanted to pull some funds from my business account for the cause and after making a small donation the UMDF sent a good amount of material on what it stands for. As our company successes have grown, so have our donations from year to year", said BBC President Don McConville.

"This is also a good way to bring awareness within our organization as to how there are problems out there bigger than the ones we deal with on a daily basis."

According to the Cleveland Clinic's website, about one in 4,000 children in the United States will develop mitochondrial disease by the age of 10 years. One thousand to 4,000 children per year in the United Sates are born with a type of mitochondrial disease.

Individuals in management and human resources pledged funds for the cause which were matched by the company, Better Business Consultants, Inc.

Better Business Consultants, Inc. Donates Funds to Haiti Disaster

Better Business Consultants, Inc., a sales and marketing company servicing Northeast Ohio, donated funds to the Haiti Earthquake Relief effort via the American Red Cross.

January 18, 2010 -- Better Business Consultants, Inc., a sales and marketing company servicing Northeast Ohio, donated funds to the Haiti Earthquake Relief effort via the American Red Cross.

The disaster rocked the world last week, killing what the American Red Cross is estimating at over 50,000 Haitians. This is well under the original estimate released by Haitian officials originally believed to exceed 100,000.

"At first it seemed like not enough attention was given to the disaster considering the damage it did. Towards the end of the week it seemed like a good amount of aid was being sent, but what's a good amount considering the damage"?, said BBC employee Joe Filippo.

BBC is still seeking ways to help in other ways besides financial aid. Other charitable events BBC has participated in include Pelotonia, a bike ride raising funds for cancer research, Tour de Cure, a ride raising funds for the American Diabetes Association, as well as donating funds to help fight mitochondrial disease.

"Giving back to any organization that's doing something to help people who need it is something we're very passionate about. We're fortunate enough to be doing well enough as a company to be able to give back. It is our responsibility", said BBC President Don McConville
